Take any book, workshop, blog or video, the first rule on personal development is "take absolute responsibility of your life". This is the universal rule. It's all over around us and has been the rule of thumb ever since man wanted to achieve greatness (those saints, yogis, great leaders of the world), respect and trust from others, personal success (scientists, inventors, businessmen) and when they wanted to live peaceful life.
What are the dimensions of this "taking absolute responsibility"? Well, the answer simply is "absolute" that is 100% of our words, actions and our current state of mind, body and life.
Let's say we are riding a bike or car or even travelling in a public transport. In India, we tend to blame lot of things for not reaching on time or reaching a wrong destination. But is it true that external factors are always the reason? We all know the answer very well "no". Then why we blame the external things or other people? That is where we are escaping our responsibility. When we reach office or college late we forget the fact that we woke up late or didn't plan the morning properly. This is one of the thousands of examples how we are reluctant to take responsibility in our life whether it's a small or big thing in our life.
Taking responsibility calls for the matured behaviour. When we don’t take responsibility we indirectly say that "I haven't grown up, treat me like a child". And in the contrast we expect respect from others. A child may get sympathy and affection, but not respect. So immature behaviour and getting respect are mutually exclusive. So we need to behave matured to gain respect and trust.
Matured behaviour + integrity + taking responsibility = Respectful and successful life.
